Price List Demo The best way to see and understand how PriceIt works is to see it in action. There are two ways in which you can do this. Part 1 shows and explains how to setup a simple QuarkXPress document for use with PriceIt and then demonstrates the prices being dynamically updated on screen. In Part 2 the work has already been done for you. All you have to do is open the QuarkXPress document, click a button and see PriceIt in action. For a fuller understanding ofhow PriceIt works I would suggest you work through Part 1 rather than Part 2. Part 1 This demo will attempt to guide you through the typical processes involved in preparing a QuarkXPress document for use with PriceIt. By the end of this short demo you should be able to appreciate the power and flexibility of PriceIt as well as being extremely familiar with using the XTension itself. Lets get started. 1. Launch QuarkXPress with the PriceIt Demo XTension already loaded. If you need help in installing PriceIt please see the DocMaker file 'Introduction & Installation'. 2. Locate & open the Price List Demo file 3. Activate PriceIt by selecting PriceIt from the Utilities menu. If PriceIt does not appear on the utilities menu please refer to the DocMaker file 'Introduction & Installation'. In front of you is an example of a price list in QuarkXPress. You will notice the stock numbers at the beginning of each row corresponding to the products in that row. (Although in this example the prices are in rows, in a tabular format, this is not essential, the prices could equally be scattered throughout the QuarkXPress document). About Record Keys Before you progress further it will be well worth your while to understand some basic concepts of how PriceIt works, and the most important concept in PriceIt, that of Record Keys. A 'Record Key' is a unique piece of information such as a stock number or SKU that PriceIt can use to associate prices with. The Record Key acts as a reference for any prices in the document that need updating. A Record Key can be a piece of text or number and the only restriction is that it must appear in your database. In the Price List Tutorial the Stock Number is used as the Record Key. PriceIt knows where to find the associated prices and updates them in the docuemtn irrespective of their locations.
